What does it cost to learn to fly?
The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight training to receive your Private pilot's license or your instrument rating.
The FAA also requires a minimum of 15 hours solo for your private pilots license. The average person in the USA takes 60-70 hours
to get their pilots license. Aircraft have a hobbs meter which runs only when the airplane is being used. If an airplane only has a tachometer,
it will not register the time taxiing on the ground.
We have available the following aircraft:
Cherokee 140 Rents for $60 per hour on the hobbs plus gas at 6 gallons of gas per hour.
Cherokee 235 Rents for $70 per hour on the hobbs plus gas at about 8 gallons per hour.
Comanche 250 Rents for $90 per hour on the Tach plus gas at about 12 gallons per hour.
Currently Avgas is $5.50-6.00 per gallon
Instruction is $40 per hour on the clock.
The FAA minimums would generate the following approximate costs for training in the Cherokee 235.
Cherokee 235 - $70 per hour for 40 hours= $2800
Gas $5 per gal x 8 per hour x 40= $1600
Instructor $40 per hour x est. 60hrs = $2400
Total = $6800
These are estimates and will vary depending on how fast you learn and how often you fly. The
more often you fly the faster you will learn. The most critical factor in learning to fly is how well
you and your flight instructor communicate. Find the instructor that fits you and your costs will be
lower.
We offer a discovery flight to see if we teach the way your learn for $120. Call 274-6700 now to schedule
